Make a two-line inventory

Record the exact model of your main device and its manufacturer’s recommended charging setup. Then record what you need to charge at the same time. A person charging one phone overnight is solving a different problem from someone using a laptop while topping up a phone before leaving.

Read the right rating

Apple advises using a power adapter and cable that provide at least the recommended minimum for the Mac model for the best charging experience. Its guidance allows higher- or lower-wattage USB-C supplies for compatible Macs, but that is not a promise of equal charging performance. Do not extend a Mac-specific statement to every USB-C device.

Compare scenarios

Your routineWhat matters most
One phone overnightDevice compatibility and whether the current setup already works
Laptop while workingThe exact model’s recommended supply and cable
Two devices togetherThe documented output with both ports occupied
One device in a small day bagThe complete kit size, including the cable and regional plug

Why the biggest number can mislead

For a multi-port candidate, find its simultaneous-use table. Do not assume the advertised total is available at every port. As an illustrative budget, a laptop allocation of 45W plus a phone allocation of 20W totals 65W. That arithmetic does not prove a particular 65W charger supports that arrangement: its documented port configuration must match.

Run a no-spend comparison

For three ordinary days, note the moment charging actually interrupts you. Is the battery low because the charger is unsuitable, because you forgot the cable, or because the nearest socket is inconvenient? A spare cable, a better packing habit or a charging location change may address the problem without a new adapter.

Our purchase rule

Choose the smallest complete setup that meets the verified requirement with the devices you use together. We have not tested a 30W model against a 65W model and cannot give a time-to-full comparison. The linked Anker note covers one 30W option; it is not a universal recommendation for laptops.
